John Francis is internationally recognised as one of the world’s foremost Natural History illustrators. His work ranges widely over all areas of wildlife portrayal from the demands of scientific exactness to the more loosely drawn children’s books for which he is also known.
John is renowned for putting ‘Life’ into his pictures and as such is in great demand from a world wide client list which includes: Dorling Kindersley, Usborne and The Sunday Times of the UK, Gakken of Japan and Schoolastic of the USA. European clients include Hachette of France, Pestalozzi, Germany and Vaner Media from Scandinavia. John has also worked extensively in the porcelain market, creating designs for both figurines and plates for such companies as The Franklin Mint, Bradford Exchange, Kaiser Porcelain and MBI. Many of John’s pictures have been very successfully reproduced as Jigsaw puzzles around the world. Advertising contracts have been undertaken for many of the leading pet product companies in the UK and Europe.
John is a committed conservationist with a deep interest in the living environment in particular the effect man’s short sightedness has upon the earth’s vulnerable ecosystems. His travels have taken him far and wide, from the icy wastes of the Arctic to the parched deserts of North America, from the mountain forests of New Zealand to the coral reefs of the Indian Ocean.
